THE LINDA AND WAYNE ZAUNBRECHER SCHOLARSHIP - FARM BUREAU
The requirements to receive the installments are the same for both scholarships and are listed below.  The winner must maintain all below to receive all installments.
1) Attendingan accredited Louisiana College/University (proof of registration required)
2) Pursue a curriculum in agriculture, vocational ag, agribusiness, or other curriculum directly benefitting agricultural sector
3) Earn and maintain a grade point aberage of 2.5 or higher (transcripts required)
4) Be a current Farm Bureau member



The Hagan Scholarship is now available. To be eligible you must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.5, have a minimum ACT score of 23 or SAT score of 1200, plan to enroll in a four year university in the Fall of 2019, Must work 240 hours in the twelve months prior to the start of college; from August 2018 to August 2019, Must complete the FAFSA in 2018 using 2017 tax return information. Apply online at https://haganscholarships.org/application/. **ATTENTION SENIORS PLANNING TO APPLY TO MCNEESE:  It was announced at this week’s Enrollment Management Meeting that the Priority Deadline for Scholarships has been moved up toNOVEMBER 15. 

The easiest way to apply is for a student to complete the online application for first time freshman status.  In that online application is a question,  “Do you want to be considered for a Scholarship?”  The student answers “Yes,” and a few more questions roll out.  When the student completes the online application and has answered the Scholarship questions, then the student will have applied for a scholarship.**

Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship for female students planning to major in the medical, nursing or allied health fields.  Must be planning to attend one of the following Louisiana schools:  Centenary, Dillard University, Louisiana College,

LSU Alexandria, LSU Eunice, Louisiana Tech, or Loyola University New Orleans.  Must contact school for application process.

 

ATTENTION JUNIORS:  The PSAT will be administered at South Beauregard High School on Wednesday, October 19th.  This test is the only qualifying test to be entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program.  The cost of the test is $15 and should be paid the morning of the test.  Please sign up with your English teacher if you are interested in testing.  The first 30 to sign up will be able to test.  If we do not have 30 juniors interested in testing, the test will be open to Sophomores as a practice test only. 

 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship:  1st Place $5000; 2nd Place $3000; 3rd Place $2000; and 4th Place $1000.  Essay required, 700-750 words, "What would you propose to substantially reduce the incidence of gun violence in the United States and around the World without taking away the legal rights of law abiding citizens to acquire and possess firearms?"

St Louis High School ACT Prep Course for the December ACT will be held October 29-December 3rd.  Registration Due Date:  October 21, 2016.  The fee is $325 for the full six-week course.  If the student’s ACT score does not improve on the ACT after completing all six sessions, the student may retake the program for free.  Missing any session for any reason or failing to do the assignments on time VOIDS this warranty.

 

Horatio Alger National Scholarship:  must demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required); be involved in co-curricular and community service activities; display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity

Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.  Deadline to apply: October 25, 2016.  Apply online at www.horatioalger.org

 

CME Beef Industry Scholarship:  must have demonstrated a commitment to a career in the beef industry through classes, internships or life experiences.  $1500; Apply online at

Coca Cola Scholarship:  achievement-based scholarship, based on leadership, academics, and service.  Apply online at www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org.  150 scholarships valued at $20,000 will be awarded.  Deadline to apply:  October 31, 2016.

 

Voice of Democracy Program:  Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme.  This year’s theme is “MY RESPONSIBILITY TO AMERICA.”

This program is open to all students in grades 9-12.  Local winner:  $500 scholarship to the school of their choice; National winners:  $1000-$16,000.  See your English teacher for more information.  Deadline for entry:  November 1, 2016.

 

Anne Ford Scholarship for seniors with documented learning disabilities and/or ADHD who are pursuing post-secondary education.  Must have an overall GPA of 3.0, submit current financial information, provide most current documentation (IEP or 504 plan).  Apply athttp://apply.ncld.or/res/p/Eligibilityinfo/

Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship for graduating seniors who will be attending a two-year community college, vocational/technical training program, must submit current financial information and provide most current documentation of an identified learning disability and/or ADHD.  Apply at http://apply.ncld.org.  Deadline:  November 13, 2016.

The Heart of America Foundation’s Christopher Reeve Service Award:  presented to an extraordinary youth who has demonstrated tremendous courage, compassion and caring in serving his or her community.  $1000; Deadline:  December 1, 2016.  See Mrs. Greene for details.

AFL-CIO Scholarship:  3--$1000 scholarships will be awarded.  This scholarship is open to all seniors whose parent/step-parent is a member of an affiliated local union in good standing with the Louisiana AFL-CIO.  An essay is required for consideration:  “Beyond Wages:  The Positive Impact of Organized Labor on the Workplace.”  See Mrs. Greene for contest rules, and essay specifications.  Deadline:  January 13, 2017.
